2021 Heat Pump Water Heater Instant Discount
VPPSA has teamed up with Efficiency Vermont to offer a discount for purchasing and installing a heat pump water heater. Customers replacing a fossil-fuel fired water heater can receive a $600 price discount at the time of purchase.
If you work with a participating HVAC distributor then you will see an instant price discount at the time of purchase. If you don't receive an instant discount, you can apply for a rebate online.
Low and moderate income households may be eligible for additional discounts from Efficiency Vermont.
How A Heat Pump Water Heater Works
Unlike traditional electric heaters, heat pump water heaters do NOT generate their own source of heat! They work by extracting heat from the air surrounding the pump and dispersing it into water inside of a tank. As the water inside the tank heats up, the air surrounding the pump cools down and dehumidifies. So the heat pump water heater doesn't just heat water- it air conditions the space around it.

There is no separate VPPSA rebate form for the heat pump water heater discount. If you do not receive a discount at the time of installation, you can apply for a rebate online.
Will a heat pump water heater help me save money?
According to Efficiency Vermont, heat pump water heaters cost half as much to operate compared to a traditional electric heater!
Is it more efficient than a traditional electric water heater?
According to Energy.gov, heat pump water heaters can be two to three times more efficient than a traditional electric resistance water heater.
Am I eligible for the VPPSA discount?
If you are a VPPSA member customer and you are switching from a fossil fuel water heater to a heat pump water heater, you are eligible.
