VPPSA Launches Affordable Community Renewable Energy Program to Help More Vermonters Lower Electric Bills
Waterbury Center, VT — Vermont Public Power Supply Authority (VPPSA) is announcing the launch of the Affordable Community Renewable Energy (ACRE) program, a new community solar program designed to help qualifying Vermonters lower their electric bills with monthly credits. Vermonters can check if they qualify and apply to participate in ACRE through August 31, 2026.
ACRE provides steady monthly bill credits that will save participating households $29.55 per month. The program is supported by funding from the Vermont Public Service Department, so there is no cost to apply and no cost to participate. The clean energy powering the program comes from a solar facility in Barton, VT, helping support a clean, reliable, and affordable local electric grid.
“Many Vermonters are facing rising household costs and uncertainty in their monthly expenses,” said Ken Nolan, VPPSA general manager. “Municipal utilities are committed to keeping electric bills affordable. ACRE offers predictable electric bill savings while expanding access to clean energy to customers who are often left out of these opportunities.”
The program is open to qualifying households—renters and homeowners alike—who live in the service territories of participating public power electric utilities: Barton, Enosburg Falls, Hardwick, Jacksonville, Johnson, Ludlow, Lyndon, Morrisville, Northfield, Orleans, and Swanton.
Enrollment is limited and VPPSA encourages early applications. Applying to ACRE takes only a few minutes. Applicants need a recent electric bill and basic household income information. Eligibility is based on two criteria:
- Being a residential customer of a participating electric utility; and
- Having a qualifying household income level.
