Stowe Electric Department rejoins VPPSA as strategic member
April 22, 2025
Waterbury Center, Vt. - The Vermont Public Power Supply Authority (VPPSA) is pleased to announce that Stowe Electric Department (SED) rejoined the Authority as its newest strategic member. The renewed partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing public power in Vermont through collaboration, innovation, and shared expertise.
The strategic membership structure - established in 2018 by VPPSA’s board of directors - allows qualified municipal utilities to engage with VPPSA on a flexible mutual fee-for-service basis, to maximize joint resources and services that benefit the broader public power network.
“Strengthening VPPSA’s collaboration with Stowe Electric will enhance the voice of public power across multiple fronts,” said VPPSA General Manager Ken Nolan. “We envision significant opportunities to share resources in ways that bolster both entities”.
As a strategic member, Stowe Electric will work with VPPSA on efforts such as shared regulatory coverage, joint legislative strategies, renewable energy standard program design, and operational support services. The partnership will also explore possible opportunities for joint procurement and power supply planning to benefit ratepayers and enhance system resilience.
“Rejoining VPPSA in a strategic capacity is a smart move for our utility and for our customers,” said Jackie Pratt, Stowe Electric Department General Manager. “This partnership will help us better meet the evolving challenges of the energy sector while continuing to provide reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable services to the Stowe community.”
VPPSA and SED anticipate the strategic membership to formally take effect May 1st, with services to be coordinated and delivered under a collaborative framework that maximizes value for all parties involved.
